5* means nothing

What does a 5* rating mean? If you travel with Azamara, very little. I have just spent over $17,000 booking 2 "superior veranda staterooms" our party of four, including my mother-in-law recouperating from a heart attack. How she didn't relapse is beyond me. These staterooms are at the front of the ship and provide no peace for those wanting to sleep during the afternoon or retire to bed before midnight as there was a constant barrage of noise coming from the cabaret lounge immediately beneath our staterooms. This was pointed out to the Cruise Hotel Director, and her manager was able to witness the noise and feel the vibration through the floor. To alleviate this we were offered was a 5% discount against a future cruise? They need to sort out their existing levels of service before expecting people to book a further cruise. I chose Azamara as they were meant to be the "top level" of Celebrity. Well, having previously cruised with Radison and Princess I consider the quality of the food apart from the speciality restuarants to be quite mediocre. I am not a complainer by nature, but speaking with several other guests, I found that I was not alone in feeling their star rating over-rated. Entertainment - well that was non existent - it made X-Factor rejects look good. My advice to prospective cruisers? If you want to pay top price for mediocre service then choose Azamara and you won't be dissappointed.
Quality of Food2
Speciality dining - Aquilina and Prime C could not be faulted. The buffet and dining service was at best mediocre
Entertainment1
A coiple of acts, wre okay, the rest were very pedestrian
Shore Excursions2
Trip to Pompei was 1st class, guide excellant, Taste and Smells of Turkey left a bad taste in our mouths
Staff4
Milo from Serbia was great, apart from being professional, always had a smile that seemed genuine rather than painted on
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activitiesn/a
Cabins1
Don't book Veranda suite unless you want lots of noise and vibration from the cabaret lounge immediately below you

Surely you looked at the deckplans to see what is above/below your room before booking? Didn't you?

I don't know this ship at all but I do know having learnt from experience, that I would never book a stateroom/suite that was anywhere near the public entertainment or eating areas.I think noise is inevitable. On our first cruise, we were in a suite over one of the restaurants. Amazing how noisy that can be at 5am as staff prepare for breakfast.
